Included in the promises we’ve made publicly about myTooq.com, we’ve promised to ensure that you know about any third parties we use to provide our services to you, if the service collects or conveys any of your information. We have listed these third parties on our ‘Company Info’ page, but with some last-minute changes with our beta launch, there are some additions that have not yet made it to that page. I though it would be best to let you know here and we’ll update the page within a few weeks.
Amazon EC2 – Due to the last minute issue with deploying to the servers we had planned on using, we made the decision to use EC2 instead. The application is hosted on Amazon servers, though your information is securely held and not used or sold by Amazon.
Google Analytics – We have been using Google Analytics since the coming soon page was posted in November. For whatever reason, it never came to mind to mention it as a third-party on the other lists and that is completely my fault for skipping it over. If you don’t know, this application allows us to track the traffic on the site and gather basic, but non-identifiable data, about that traffic. If you want to know specifics about what we can see with Analytics, feel free to ask in the comments and I’ll respond, or I can elaborate in a future post.
Email – On the coming soon page, we were using GoIgniter to handle our email collection for the beta. Our last-minute server switch landed us with issues continuing with their service and with email in general. We needed a system that was reliable, robust and could handle sufficient volume as more users sign up and send invoices. We have moved on from GoIgniter for our emails, but would like to thank them for allowing us to use the beta product.
I’ve been thinking about this blog a little bit over the last few weeks, and I’m trying to decide what direction it should take. So far, it’s been a mix of product updates and maybe a bit of a peek behind the curtain of a young company just getting started. Originally, I figured I would document the first year or so, warts and all, so others might learn from our mistakes, or possibly be inspired to make the leap into starting something of their own, or just laugh and point. It quickly derailed into the hodgepodge of randomness that you can read in previous posts.
In trying to keep up with all the comments (I think there has been two), it’s a bit tough to figure out whether this should be about the day-to-day operations of Tooq Inc, about the product (mytooq.com), or about small business/contractor/freelancer advice. While it seems some people do stop by and read, I’m not sure where the sweet spot is for this medium. For now, I’m going to focus on tagging posts in one of a few categories (Product, Company, SMB Related) and see where things land. Maybe the hodgepodge works, but at some point, being able to filter out “Beta Released!” announcements is going to be nice for someone looking for advice on billing clients. And just to complicate things, I’m going to see if I can’t get my co-founder to write some posts here too.
Anyways, for now I’ll keep to the wide range of posts, but I’ll tag them distinctively until there is some feedback to work with.I will post an update on the beta release in the next day or two. Trying to decide if it’s taboo to share traffic numbers or not.
Thanks for reading.
